Sneezes

It was a hole in a long row of muddy walls; with a short roof and not a single word on its window. It seemed like the shop was hiding. A green eyed black cat was licking her kitty beside the shop. In front of it a horde of berries were hanging from their tree and enjoying shadows of its wide leaves, which cast a shadow on the shop. This was the first berry tree Man has ever seen with no berries under it. He was here after an anti-sneeze herb, farther from Ghanat-Abad[a neighborhood in Tehran] mosque, near the old high school, and past a few broken arcs.
The window was dark and dirty, and the shop itself was filled with bags of herbs. Man pulled his tired feet to the shop, took off his gray coat and laid it on his left shoulder, pushed the glass door and stepped in.
There was neither a bell nor a welcome. There was not a living soul except a red beak crow sitting silent on a bar, beside the jars filled with snakes and bats and frogs. "Hello, anyone here?" Man said, long and loud. The crow was staring at him without a blink. And then those sneezes came back again, these damn sneezes came to him each and every hour hardening the breathing, wetting his eyes, making his everything sour. He put his hand on his knee. Tear drops were in his eyes, his throat was hurt and he wished to die, and the sneezing stopped as suddenly as before.
"It`s nothing, I`m going to fix it now" a young voice said. Man raised his head and saw an old man behind the counter. "You mean you can stop the sneezing?" Man said and the old man smiled and his beard gave way to his yellow teeth. Man couldn't see the crow anymore. The old man opened a jar and a green smoke floated playfully in the air, he grabbed it with a spoon and put it in a glass, then shattered a little dried herb on it and recited a verse and handed it to the man: "Gulp and get fine". Man was in doubt, he was shocked. The old man said: "Grab it Ebi , we don't poison people here."
Man stepped back a step: "How do you know my name?"
The old man put the glass down and laughed: "I call all strangers Ebi, don't be insulted Sir, but you are under a spell and you are lucky it is a simple one, gulp and get fine!"
Ebi wanted to run away, but his throat was itchy again and a wave was climbing down his nose, those sneezes again! He jumped forward and grabbed the glass and gulped it at once with closed eyes and everything was gone! It was like the potion built a breaker in his nose.
The old man said: "be my guest son, but if you want to pay, it is 5 grand."
Ebi was shocked:"5 grand? For one glass?"
"It is anti-spell, not jam." The old man came back.

It was no place to hesitate. Ebi paid and got out. He moved down the street where he had parked his car. The berry tree still had its shadow on the shop.

The Crow

Contributor: Amin Hosseinioun

Her blanket slipped down as she raised herself from the bed. He was outside again; sitting on a branch on the old oak; staring at her through the window. He was the Crow. She cried out and covered her nakedness. They stared at each other for several minutes. "What of it" she thought, "it is only a crow". Throwing off her blankets she walked from the room naked, under the crow's fixed gaze which she felt even through the walls. Whatever it was, it wasn’t natural.

In the classroom, words on the blackboard were out of focus. She could feel his eyes roaming over her body. Glancing outside she screamed in surprise: he was there again, sitting in an oak tree, staring at her.

From that day on, things grew more different by day. Now she walked with her hair around her neck and her high heels giving her a sexier shape. Finally on a day like any other, as she was removing her blouse to take her shower, she saw him again, his face covering an entire wall, his eyes as big as her head. She backed away, her hands faltering as they reached for the door.

For a while she resisted, finally she shed her blouse with shaking hands, naked legs propelling her under the dashing warmth of falling water, and the crow observing her fingers as they worked her neck and chest.

Without drying herself she made her way to her room, head lowered. He was waiting in the window frame. Opening the window, she knelt down and shut her eyes and kissed his beak. Bones in her fingers stood out, her lips were merging into his black beak. As she pulled back, her lips stretched out. She struck at him in fright, but her arms now were covered with feathers, spreading into wings. Soon she perched in the window frame, a small crow.

A letter of grind

Contributor: Amin Hosseinioun

You were shutting the door behind you when I told you to stop. I told you I still loved you. Told you how your departure crushes me; but you went anyway and that's ok. It is your life and I couldn’t make you stay. I am just telling you in this letter one thing. Don’t ever come back, because if you do so, I will throw you into my grinder.

Your appearance in my life made me so happy. You were the best thing that ever happened to me. But I didn't force you to come, you came all by yourself and now you left me for someone else. I am sure you are making him happy too. I am sure you have turned his life over too. You know why? He is a friend of mine. It is all good, but I know something. If you ever come to my way, if I ever see you, I will grind you both; you and your lousy partner. Or maybe I just Kebab you both and start a charity dinner for all town.

Don’t be surprised. I am still the same guy kind and gentle. I still look at your photos while tears are in my eyes. You know, I still have your picture on the bookshelf. I cherish all those good memories. I even bought this house just for you to relax. You know, I am a true liberal and I care for you, so please: don’t come back.

My grinder is really big, almost as big as a closet or a fridge. I've read through its manual as well. It says undress your person in use and put him/her down onto the grinder. Yes you'll go in by your legs. It has a very nature friendly design too. It doesn’t use electricity. It has pedals. So as I hold your naked body over the grinder I can set the speed with those pedals. I promise you I will grind you so slowly that it feels like a lifetime.

Let me ask you something. Has a piece of your body ever been cut off? Have you ever been bitten by a wolf or shark? Of course not, you are too spoiled for that kind of action. Isn’t it great that your last life experience would be the most exciting one? I think you'll fall in love with my grinder. You always said you enjoyed violence. Is my friend more violent? Is that why you left me for him? Or maybe you just left me because you wanted to be grinded? Well, now that we both want the same thing, and if you ever come back you'll prove that I am right. I have no other ways but grinding you slowly by your legs. And proudly watch those pretty legs, belly, and breasts cutting into pieces, oh what a scene!
